Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

Serving as your District Attorney for the First Judicial District is an honor. When I took over in 2021, we were in the middle of a global pandemic, had a backlog of cases dating back over four years, had numerous staff vacancies, and our attorneys were overworked and underpaid. 

The work we’ve done over the last three years has not only turned the office around but has made northern New Mexico safer for children and families.

There has been so much growth since I’ve taken office. While my office has so much to be proud of ,here are a few highlights: 

• Won over 95% of our homicide and violent crime prosecutions, including cases against child abusers, sex offenders, and rapists. We're prosecuting the tough cases and we’re putting violent criminals behind bars. 

• Increased our DWI conviction rate to over 80%. When I took office four years ago, the DA’s office had a DWI conviction rate of just under 40%. 

• Completely cleared years-old backlogs in areas like rape kit prosecutions, police-involved shootings, and homicides.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that we’ve re-established the reputation and the credibility of the First Judicial District by professionalizing the office, winning critical cases, and hiring and retaining the best and brightest attorneys New Mexico has to offer. 

I’ve learned a lot since taking office. Perhaps the most important lesson is how important it is to roll up your sleeves and do the work. To be an effective District Attorney, it’s important to be present in the courtroom, prosecute cases, and provide boots on the ground leadership. That’s how we’ve built back the DA’s office. 

We’ve grown a lot, made a lot of progress, and genuinely made communities safer. But there’s always more to do to improve and build up our communities. That’s why I’m running for a second term.
